The AIP Grocery List: What to Stock, Skip, and Swap
So you’re going AIP. Now what?
First, breathe. You don’t have to memorize 400 ingredients or spend your life reading every label in the snack aisle.
We made this handy little guide to help you stock your kitchen (without losing your mind), skip the foods that don’t serve you, and swap in ones that actually support your healing.
Let’s break it down:
✅ What to Stock on AIP
These are your new pantry MVPs. Fresh, nutrient-dense, and 100% protocol-approved.
- Animal proteins: beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, organ meats (yes, really)
- Vegetables: especially leafy greens, squashes, carrots, beets, and cruciferous veggies like broccoli and cauliflower
- Fruit: berries, apples, bananas, mango, etc. (just watch sugar intake)
- Healthy fats: avocado oil, olive oil, coconut oil, duck fat, tallow
- Fresh herbs: basil, thyme, rosemary, parsley, cilantro, etc.
- Bone broth: preferably homemade or POTG-style (read: zero junk)
💡 Short on time? Our AIP Basics pack is great to stock for when you need it.
🚫 What to Skip on AIP
AIP is all about reducing inflammation—so these guys are out, at least during the elimination phase:
- Grains (yes, even quinoa and oats)
- Legumes (bye, peanut butter)
- Dairy
- Eggs
- Nuts & seeds (even those “healthy” seed oils)
- Nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, white potatoes)
- Coffee, alcohol, chocolate (we know. We’re sorry.)
- Anything processed, artificial, or ending in “-ose”
Not forever. But for now? These are the no-go zone.
🔄 What to Swap
Here’s how to replace your usual go-tos with AIP-friendly upgrades:
- Butter → avocado oil or coconut oil
- Pasta → spaghetti squash or spiralized zucchini
- Mayo → blended avocado with herbs and lemon
- Coffee → herbal teas or roasted chicory blends
- Crackers → air-fried plantain slices or coconut wraps
Still feeling overwhelmed? Totally normal.
