Are Grasshopper Tacos the Food of the Future?

Around the world, many cultures enjoy insects as a nutritious and tasty part of their diet. And, it makes sense. They're easy to raise, full of animal protein, and low-impact on the environment. So, why don't those of us in the USA eat them? It's simply a taboo. After all, they were an essential part of the Paleo human's diet.Â
CHAPULINES (GRASSHOPPER TACOS)
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup grasshoppers
- 1/2 cup shredded carrot
- 1/2 cup shredded cabbage
- POTG Salsa Verde
- POTG Tortillas
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
- Remove legs and wings from grasshoppers. Set aside.
- Heat a small amount of oil
- Saute shredded cabbage and carrots until wilted. Remove to a plate.
- In same oil (add more if necessary) sauté grasshoppers until tender.
- Take out grasshoppers with slotted spoon. Place into plate with paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Once grasshoppers are removed, heat desired amount of tortillas in skillet with a small amount of oil until they are warm. Remove and set aside.
- Place tortillas onto a plate, add grasshoppers, then cabbage and carrots. Top with POTG Salsa Verde. Add salt and pepper to taste.
